A Small Side Hustle Income Report!
Wednesday, October 13, 2021 I love working on my side hustles. It's fun to make money off your own back and have extra income coming in each month. There are many ways to make extra money, but finding the time to do so can be difficult. I want to finish my qualifications before I consider blogging full-time, but it means I can't spend a lot of time working on a small business or blog. I try to make money where I can and passively, if possible. Here is my September side hustle income report, so you can see that making money on the side is possible!
Why I'm Doing An Income Report
I like reading income reports, but I have found some to be unrealistic for me. It's amazing to see bloggers and hustles making thousands every month, but others won't have the same time or opportunities. A lot of those bloggers are full-time or have been blogging for longer. They have worked hard to get there, but sometimes I want a report that I can relate to. It's a great target to strive towards, but for now, I am not there. I have a full-time job and study to consider before I work on my blog and side hustles. My job takes up 42 hours a week before commuting and study. It means that I don't get to work on all the things I want. I am sure there are lots of people who feel the same.
I decided to do a side-hustle income report to show you that it is possible to make money on the side. Since starting a job, my side hustle income has decreased, but I am still making a fair amount. I think it is still something that many people can appreciate having as an extra each month. I want to show you that you CAN make money on the side, even with a busy lifestyle.
How To Make Money Online
A lot of my money comes from working online and from home. It means I can do it in the comfort of my own home. Remember, if you're regularly making money and make over £1000 in a tax year, you NEED to register as self-employed and declare it on a tax return. Yes, even if you're selling on Depop or doing regular market research. If you want to make money from home, I have lots of helpful articles about money!

Blogging Income
I used to offer advertising slots, but I've recently taken a break to focus on other things. It means that most of my income now comes from sponsored blog posts. This month, I made £250 from sponsored blog posts. I only took on a few sponsored blog posts as I have been working on my reselling and other side hustles more than my blog. I hope to get back into blogging over the winter months to save up for Christmas.
I have also started virtual assistant services, which I took on a trial client. I did some design work where I created a digital design for them for personal use. From this, I made £50 as I wanted to test the waters. If you'd like me to design personal gifts for you or manage your blog and socials, I still have some space for this month! I offer a range of services to help you regain some time and improve your blog/brand! You can read more about my VA services and what I do here.
eBay Selling Income
I am an avid eBay seller. Every weekend, I will try to list 20-50 items. My parents kept many of the toys I grew up with, so I am making my way through the loft and garage. My goal is to clear the house without throwing too many things to avoid contributing to landfills. If I can clean the house, make money and make someone happy, then that is great. This month I made £366.51 after fees and shipping. If you're looking to sell your old things, now is the perfect time to do so. With Christmas approaching, I've found that many of my older items are moving quicker than ever. I'm also selling decorations and Christmas ornaments which have been selling fast over the last few weeks. We are two weeks into October and I've already hit £400, so if you've got some things to sell, make sure you get listing. If you'd like some help with eBay, Depop or where to get started, pop me a message and I'd be more than happy to give you some tips. I've also got a few eBay and selling guides on the blog!
Other Side Hustle Income
I occasionally do odd jobs, which contributes to my side hustle income. I like to do surveys in my free time or while I am commuting to work. This month, I made £30.49 from surveys, which is a nice little income. It's not much, but I've put that money towards fuel now that I am driving to work more. Every little helps when you're saving up for things. Usually, I'd try to do a market research campaign or deliver food to boost this income, but I was happy with that amount. One of my best market research campaigns was £180 for playing games! Keep an eye out and find ones that interest you. Many restaurants are now offering delivery, so you could sign up to be a Deliveroo or Uber Eats driver. I know lots of people who have recently signed up to do this! I've also had friends working as a parcel delivery driver, especially leading up to Christmas.
What If You Don't Have Time?
Side hustles are great, but sometimes we don't have the time to build them up. For example, starting an eBay or small business is great, but feedback and reviews boost sales. If you can't put in the time to build up a trusted brand, you may not make as many sales. If you don't have time to work on side hustles, reconsider why you're doing it. I believe that we all have time for the things we need. If you can't find time for a side hustle, maybe it's not something you enjoy doing. Instead, find something you do enjoy. There are so many things you can do!
Similarly, you could make a passive income. A passive income is where after the initial set-up, you don't have to do anything. Affiliate marketing is a great example of passive income. Once you have inserted the links, you just wait for purchases! There is a little bit more to affiliate marketing, but that is the basic concept. Other passive incomes include drop shipping, investing and website ads. There is always a little bit of time spare for you to work on a side hustle, you just need to find one that you love.
Plan For October
As already mentioned, I've made about £400 from eBay in the first 2 weeks of October. I'm hoping to hustle hard and continue boosting that number now that Christmas sales are picking up. I have lots of Christmas decorations that have been of high interest and winter clothing that I am going to have a go at selling. I'd love to continue taking on virtual assistant clients as I love doing admin jobs. I've already had a few lovely ladies come to me and we are working on some fun projects. My goals for October are to:
- Take on two virtual assistant clients
- Continue selling on eBay and clearing the house
- Diversify my income a bit more
- Continue working on my small business with my sister
- Hit £800 in total for the month
Final Thoughts
In total, I made £697 from my side hustles alone. I have a full-time job, where I get most of my income, but it's nice to have extra money coming in. This isn't as much money as I would usually make, but I have been taking a break and spending time with my family more. I'm hoping over Christmas to increase my side hustle income to over £1000, which is what was happening during the original lockdown when I had more time to spend. It's not as much as other bloggers make, but I know that it's more money than others, and I'm grateful I have the opportunity to make money on the side. This is also income BEFORE tax. Don't forget to keep track of your income as you'll need to declare it.
I am happy with the amount I've hustled and can't wait to see what October brings. What would you do with an extra £700 a month? I am grateful for all the opportunities I've had and that I can put this money towards something new. Over the next few months, I am excited to take on more VA clients and work with my sister on our small business! It's a lot to take on, but I love a good challenge! I'd love to hear how you're making money on the side and how you've managed to hustle your way to a more freeing life!
