Zero-waste Oral Care Products You NEED!
Thursday, May 28, 2020
Georganics creates sustainable oral care products. Not so long ago, I tried a sustainable and eco-friendly toothbrush and toothpaste from Georganics. Today, I am going to finish my trying out my organic oral-care haul and decide if Georganics is the way to go!
For those who don't know about Georganics, they are an oral hygiene business based in the UK who pride themselves on making 100% vegan, cruelty-free, zero waste and organic products. I have kindly been gifted 3 more products to try; natural chewing gum, mouthwash tablets and natural activated charcoal floss! I have already tried their beechwood toothbrush and natural toothpaste, so make sure you read that review too!
Natural Chewing Gum - English Peppermint
This was the first product I was drawn to because I love gum. I always have some in my bag, but I know it is not great for the environment. For £4.90 you get a tin of 30 pieces of English Peppermint flavoured gum. The tin is refillable, and you can buy massive 180 piece pouches to refill the pot! The gum is made from Chicle and Acacia trees meaning unlike bigger brands of gum, it doesn't contain plastic - a massive win!
I really enjoyed this gum. At first, I was concerned it would not have the same texture. I was wrong. The texture is the same familiar gooey one you'd expect from regular gum with a satisfying crunch on the shell. The flavour was really nice too. It wasn't extremely minty, but, refreshing and subtle. I really liked this gum. The flavour lasted a long time, and after chewing the gum for a while, it didn't become flaky/fall apart. (Has that ever happened to you with gum or am I just really weird!?)
I really enjoyed this gum. I would recommend it, although the price is a little steep for regular chewers. It is cheaper, in the long run, to just buy the bigger refill pack and put a few pieces in a pot to carry around. I love the tin it comes it. I think if they increased their range of flavours, it would be even better!
Mouthwash Tablets - Spearmint
Spearmint is my favourite flavour of mint. I was excited to try these tablets out because I haven't ever used mouthwash tablets before. You can buy 180 tablets for £8.90, which I think is a good deal because these will last you a while! These little green tablets need to be dissolved in water and gargled. Bear in mind, they don't have the power of a normal mouthwash and are designed to freshen breath. This can't be used as a late-night alternative to not brushing teeth.
The smell of these tablets was divine! It was a very strong spearmint flavour, but the taste wasn't there. To use the tablet, you must dissolve it first. It took around a minute to dissolve and left you with green water. It wasn't unpleasant to rinse with this mouthwash. It tasted like water and bicarbonate of soda rather than mint, but there was a spearmint aftertaste. I did feel a lot cleaner afterwards. It was refreshing and left me with smooth, cleaner feeling teeth. I was impressed. It would be good to let the tablet fizz as you were brushing your teeth, so you aren't waiting around.
In all, I actually really liked this mouthwash. I think it would be great for travelling as the tablets are small and great for if you want your teeth to be feeling refreshed. I think the price isn't too bad for them as you get 180 tablets so this will last you a while!
Natural Floss - Activated Charcoal
I have never been one for flossing. This floss looks like sewing thread in a jar. Each floss is 30m long and £4.90 for the starter floss. The jar from the floss can be reused by filling it with the refill packs that are available from Geogranics. The floss is biodegradable, which is wonderful!
It was easy to pull the thread through the hole in the jar (which I thought would be a lot harder!), but not so easy to catch it underneath the little latch that cut the thread. It smelt quite minty, but I was worried the charcoal might irritate my mouth, as activated charcoal does my skin. It was definitely not the case. My mouth actually felt really good afterwards. The yarn is tough, so it didn't fray or break while using it. It was more coarse and tougher than I was used to, however after one use, this didn't bother me. It gave a really good clean and my mouth felt amazing after use.
I would be cautious that you don't drop the glass jar as it would smash. Otherwise, this is an amazing product, and I will be making a permanent switch. I am going to start flossing and using the activated charcoal floss because it made my mouth feel amazing, and my teeth feel cleaner than before.
I had a better experience with Georganics on this time around. I still don't get along with the toothpaste, but everything else is perfect. It is a lot easier than I thought to have sustainable and eco-friendly oral care products. It is a tad expensive, especially before you purchase the refill products. I think it is worth it though, not only for the environment but for your teeth! I would recommend using Georganics, even if you want to make the smallest change to a more eco-friendly lifestyle!
I think Georganics is great. I will still hunt for a better toothpaste, but I will be switching a few things. What are your thoughts on Georganics? Are you trying to switch to a more eco-friendly lifestyle? I'd love to know what your thoughts are in the comments!

It is crazy to think how much plastic and waste there is just from oral care. In the UK alone we throw away 19 million kilos of toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes into landfill each year which is crazy!! Thank you for reading :)

I've never actually heard of these before but they sound like such a good idea! I think when it comes to dental hygiene there doesn't seem to be much out there in terms of vegan/cruelty free options so these seem like a great alternative!

Hm, I can't say that the products are appealing, but it's great that they leave a light footprint! Thanks for checking it all out.

This sounds like such a good alternative! I love finding out about new things like this.
ReplyDeleteThese sound great! Especially the mouthwash tablets! My partner and I really enjoy camping, so these would be really handy to have, rather than a great big bottle of mouthwash!
